Logis-T Africa – The Ivorian government has officially launched the construction of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) connecting Yopougon to Bingerville, an ambitious project aimed at transforming Abidjan’s urban landscape and significantly improving citizen mobility.
During a ceremony marking the start of construction, the Ivorian Prime Minister emphasized the importance of this project within the framework of President Alassane Ouattara’s development vision. The BRT is part of a broader strategy to modernize the urban public transport system of the economic capital.
With a total cost of 242 billion FCFA, the project is largely financed by the World Bank (182 billion FCFA) and the French Development Agency (60 billion FCFA). The private sector will also contribute 77 billion FCFA for the operation of the line.
Once operational, the BRT will transport between 300,000 and 500,000 people daily between Yopougon and Bingerville. Combined with the ongoing metro project, this new transport system is expected to revolutionize travel in Abidjan, offering fast, comfortable, and eco-friendly mobility solutions.
The Prime Minister highlighted the numerous benefits of the project, including reduced travel times, improved air quality, economic revitalization, and better social inclusion through accessibility for people with reduced mobility.
This project demonstrates Côte d’Ivoire’s ambition to position itself as an attractive destination for investors and international events. It is part of a broader vision of sustainable and inclusive development, aiming to make Abidjan a modern metropolis where mobility is a factor of progress rather than an obstacle.
The government has called for patience and understanding from residents during the construction period, promising to minimize inconveniences and keep the population informed of the project’s progress. The completion of the Yopougon-Bingerville BRT will mark an important milestone in the modernization of Côte d’Ivoire’s transport infrastructure, contributing to its economic growth and improving the quality of life of its citizens.
